Jefferson County Clerk - Official Duties & Responsibilities

 

The County Clerk is the official keeper of public records for Jefferson County. This includes maintaining official records for all real property transactions in Jefferson County as well as commissioners' meeting records, ordinances, resolutions and other miscellaneous commission documents. 

The County Clerk is the chief elections official for Jefferson County. She plans, coordinates and conducts elections in Jefferson County. She ensures that elections are conducted openly,fairly and according to the Oregon State Revised Statutes and Oregon Administrative Rules as they pertain to elections. 

The County Clerk is the Board Clerk for the Board of Property Tax Appeals.  She plans, coordinates and records Board of Property Tax Appeal hearings.  She is responsible for maintaining the official board record in accordance with the Oregon Revised Statutes and Oregon Administrative Rules.

The County Clerk is authorized to solemnize marriages.  Marriages are solemnized by appointment only.

Kathleen B. Marston is the current Jefferson County Clerk.  Kathleen was initially elected as Jefferson County Clerk in the November, 1998 General Election.  Kathleen's current term expires December 31, 2014.

Dog Licenses

The County Clerk's office issues dog licenses. Effective January 1, 2011 the dog licensing program has changed significantly.  The new dog license fees are: $12 per year for spayed or neutered dog, $28 per year for an active dog.  Senior citizen (age 65 and up) dog license fees are $10 per year for a spayed or neutered dog.  Senior citizen rates are not available for active dogs.  Dog licenses may now be purchased for multiple years (up to three years - based on the rabies expiration date).  Licenses may also be purchased based on the rabies expiration date.  If you have questions regarding the new license fees, please call the Jefferson County Clerk's office at 541-475-4451.  

The Jefferson County Public Works Department operates the animal shelter and administers the animal control policies within the county.  For additional animal control information or if you have questions regarding animal control, please call the animal shelter at 541-475-6889.

Marriage License
Marriage licenses purchased in the Jefferson County Clerk's office are valid in any county in the State of Oregon.  The prospective bride and groom must come in to the County Clerk's office to purchase a license.  The charge for a marriage license is $60.00 (payble by check, money order or cash).  We do not take VISA or debit cards.  There is a 3 day waiting period after purchasing the license.  The license is valid for 60 days after purchase.  Please click here for a sample marriage license form -  read more...
Voter Registration
