The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, established December 1914, is one of the most unique law enforcement organizations in the state of Oregon. We have been serving JeffersonCounty residents and visitors for nearly 100 years! Please browse these pages and feel free to let us know what you think of this site and the many services we provide.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing non-discriminatory, effective and efficient law enforcement service in protecting the life and property of the citizens of JeffersonCounty, and to ensure that the constitutional rights of all persons are protected. The Sheriff is the chief executive officer and conservator of the peace of the county as directed by statute.

675 NW Cherry Lane in MadrasOregon, northwest of town near the airport. (541) 475-6520 Fax (541) 475-3847. The Sheriff's Office also maintains sub-stations in Crooked River Ranch, CampSherman and seasonally at Lake Billy Chinook. 

The current population of JeffersonCounty is approximately 22,000 of which about 13,000 reside in unincorporated areas. JeffersonCounty is 1,791 square miles. The Sheriff's Office provides primary law enforcement services to all the unincorporated areas of the county and secondary services to those in the incorporated cities. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has 18 fulltime corrections staff, 5 Dispatchers, 5 Patrol Deputies, 2 Detectives, 2 contract Deputy Sheriff's, and one resident deputy. Each division is supervised by either a Captain or Sergeant and the entire Office is augmented by numerous Reserve and volunteer Search and Rescue members.

We are pleased to report JeffersonCounty has the lowest incident of crimes per 1000 in all of Central Oregon. JeffersonCounty's crime rate is 21 crimes per thousand lower then the State average. The new Sheriff's Office and Jail were constructed in 2001 allowing all persons charged with crimes to be lodged in the facility. Voters in May 2011 approved a new operating levy for the jail allowing stable funding for the next 3 years
