Reserve Program Information

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Reserve program provides citizens a unique way to volunteer their time and skills to benefit others. The reserves assist full time deputies with diverse functions ranging from general patrol, marine patrol, park patrol, security at various county functions, corrections, and a variety of special assignments.

The reserve program maintains a staff of about 15 reserve deputies.

Qualifications:

An applicant must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid drivers license with a good driving record, and a minimal criminal history.

Testing Procedure:

An applicant must successfully complete the following screening process:

  • Complete application
  • A written test (P.O.S.T) 
  • A physical fitness test
  • An Oral board interview
  • An extensive background investigation
  • Medical and Drug screen
  • Psychological examination
  • The applicant must then successfully complete an extensive training program

Equipment:

The reserve deputy must provide the following equipment for their use:

  • Uniform boots
  • Duty belt with appropriate equipment
  • Approved side arm
  • The cost of this equipment is usually around $500.00

Time commitment:

Reserve deputies attend a once a month meeting and are required to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per month. All reserves hired MUST attend the Central Oregon Reserve Academy as soon as available.
