Crime Victims Compensation

What is Crime Victims’ Compensation?

In 1977, the Oregon Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program was created to assist victims of violent crime who incurred expenses associated with the crime. Violent crime includes domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, robbery, assault, homicide, or other compensable crimes resulting in a physical or psychological injury. The mission of Crime Victims’ Compensation is to ease the financial impact of these crimes for the victims, survivors, and their families.

Crime Victims’ Compensation Eligibility

  • You must be a victim of a compensable crime that occurred in Oregon. Compensable crime means an intentional, knowing, reckless, or criminally negligent act by a person resulting in injury or death of another person which would be punishable as a crime.

  • Cooperate with Law Enforcement (waived in cases such as sex abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, or stalking).
  • Apply with in one (1) year of the date of the criminal injury (may be waived for good cause).
